In order to maintain our high standards, we must routinely evaluate our own work. Thankfully, Portage has a team of academic analysts who love what they do. By intentionally monitoring the student experience our analysts are able to identify key areas for improvement which then enables us to implement meaningful changes. Portage also has truly dedicated faculty that bring years of experience and insights that shape the student experience. As experts within their respective fields, our faculty similarly offer valuable feedback to enrich course goals and learning objectives to the highest levels.
Our Academic Team also fully recognizes that properly addressing the topical content is crucial for student preparedness. Portage intentionally monitors the subject matter requirements and student needs relative to their target degree program. By doing so, Portage is committed to updating course content to properly align with current guidelines and regulations. Our Academic Team also recognized the need to update course content to better reflect the current educational landscape. Students have been deeply impacted by the pandemic and in many cases, the course content has been or is being amended with content relative to COVID-19. Again, the desire to better serve our students means we must address their realities.
The quality of the course can also be greatly influenced by the learning interface. In online learning, this is often referred to as the LMS (learning management system). How a student digitally interacts with a course—the content they see, how they view it, how they navigate a page, etc—drastically impacts the overall experience. For this reason, Portage Learning has a team of LMS specialists dedicated to making the experience as engaging as possible. We have learned how students view content is just as important as the content itself. Our LMS specialists leverage digital tools to reinforce the learning experience by intentionally designing an interface that both stimulates and encourages student engagement.
