Portage Learning's mission is to provide quality academic preparation in college courses via accessible, interactive methods and to meet the entrance prerequisites and continuing needs of applicants to colleges and post-secondary schools, with the goal of assisting those schools in training and admitting well-prepared applicants who will positively impact the community.
Initially, she attempted to enter the nursing program at the University of Texas, located just a few minutes from her home in Austin. She was told the credits she had earned three decades earlier were now outdated. So she opened her laptop and searched for “nursing prerequisites,” which eventually pointed her to Portage Learning. Ruby would share her story with John Mohrbacher, who serves as scholarship coordinator for Portage. She was hoping to receive help to pay for her schooling, and John wasted little time in delivering the good news.
What makes a Portage Learning education so special? It all starts with our faculty, who guide our students with great passion and expertise. Today, meet Dr. Jeffrey Cole. Dr. Cole is Co-Chair of our Humanities Department and a Professor of History in the Humanities Department. He has been teaching college students for the past 30 years.
“We’re committed to developing a relational partnership with each student,” said Debbie Michalik, who oversees the team as Senior Director of Student Services. “We want them to know they are individuals to us. They are not just another number.”
